Slave Trafficking - Sign the Petition - MP

January 16th 2008

North Thanet's MP, Roger Gale, is backing the "Stop the Traffik" campaign targeted at bringing an end to the global trade in human beings.

Speaking before a Commons debate on the subject the MP said:

"Only very recently we celebrated the anniversary of the end of the slave trade - but sadly the reality is that that trade continues in a different form.

Thousands of women are estimated to have been trafficked into the UK for prostitution - some were the subject of police raids in Kent during the past month - and hundreds of children are also victims. This is a vile trade that causes misery to some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world and it is to our shame that the results are to be found here in the Britain. We have to play our individual part to help to stamp this traffick out.

The Stop The Traffik Global Declaration will be presented to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon at the Vienna Forum on 13th February - ironically the eve of Valentines Day - and will help to launch a world-wide fund to resource anti-trafficking projects.  I would like to urge my constituents to either text `Freedom` to 82100, or to sign the Declaration online at www.stopthetraffik.org
