MP Welcomes Bathing Water Quality Result

November 6th 2015
North Thanet/ Herne Bay MP Sir Roger Gale has welcomed the publication of "highly satisfactory" results following this year`s evaluation of bathing water quality.
Speaking from the House of Commons the MP said:
The Environment Agency has determined that four of the beaches in my constituency - Herne Bay, Minnis Bay, West Bay and St. Mildred`s Bay are excellent and a further for , Herne Bay Central, Westbrook Bay, Margate Bay and Fulsam Rock are good.
Given the stresses that our bathing waters are subjected to, from vessels passing close inshore as well as the occasional need to discharge storm overflow water into the sea,
I think that we can be satisfied that very real efforts have been made and continue to raise bathing water quality to the highest levels. We cannot be complacent - standards can fall as well as rise - and we want to see all of our bathing waters rated as "excellent" but we are, I think, able to claim that visitors to our holiday resorts in East Kent are able to swim in and enjoy first class quality. That bodes well for the tourist industry that is such a vital part of our local economy"
