June 30th 2020

North Thanet`s MP, Sir Roger Gale, has welcomed the upgrading of a vital section of the Thanet Way as part of the £5 billion investment in infrastructure announced by the Prime Minister today (Tuesday) to help kickstart the post-Covid 19 economic recovery.
The renewal programme will receive £3.978 million of Central Government funding out of a total of £4.42 million total cost which will enable the project to proceed swiftly. This is one of 29 local road projects nationwide sharing in £100 million to help reignite the local economy and speed up the recovery as lockdown eases.
Sir Roger has said:
“Clearly the last thing that we want is for work to start during what we still hope will be a good if short summer holiday season but I hope that we can get cracking very fast in the Autumn .I am pleased that North Thanet will be one of the very first beneficiaries of the PMs `New Deal for Britain`.
The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, has added:
“As the Country begins the recovery from Covid 19 we need to get on the front foot and invest in every region to reinvigorate the economy helping to better connect people with work and leisure in the future.
By investing £100m in local roads and reaffirming out commitment to better connecting local communities we are not just talking about levelling up – but making it happen”.
